How to Transition Your Skincare From Summer To Fall

As the temperatures start to drop it’s becoming all too evident that summer is really, truly coming to a close. Although we’re sad to bid farewell to our favorite sundresses and sandals, we’re definitely looking forward to busting out our chunky knits in the coming weeks and months. But there’s one other often overlooked seasonal swap that is key to a successful fall and winter: your skincare routine.

It may not seem immediately obvious, but your skin has different needs as the seasons change. For example, the freezing cold temperatures and dry winter air are the enemies of dewy skin and smooth, shiny hair. And summertime’s brutal heat and sticky humidity aren’t exactly friends to us, either. Luckily, there are easy upgrades and swaps that you can make to your routine for your varying needs throughout the year. Read on below for tips to optimize your fall and winter skincare routine.

Step 1: Opt for a gentle cleanser

If you’re using a foam cleanser, change it out for a milk or cream-based cleanser for the winter months - this simple switch can help your skin adjust more easily to the temperatures as they change. If you usually cleanse twice a day, consider cutting back to rinsing in the evenings only - if desired you can give your face a splash of water in the mornings, but overuse of products can strip your skin of its natural oils, which will further exasperate dryness and can even lead to breakouts.

Step 2: Exfoliate Regularly

It’s inevitable: We’re more prone to try and flaky skin in the fall and winter. While there is only so much that you can do to avoid drying out, exfoliating once weekly can help promote skin cell turnover, so you shed those dry layers faster and reveal your glowing complexion underneath. For a gentle exfoliation, try the Renewing Facial Polish ( - you’ll soon find yourself on the fast track to brighter, more radiant skin.

Step 3: Make Masks A Part of Your Routine

Your skin needs a little bit of extra love after being exposed to the harsh elements. In other words, the changing weather in the fall and winter make for the perfect justification for a little extra dose of face masks in your weekly routine. During the colder months, we recommend swapping out your usual picks for something that is gentle, purifying and most importantly - hydrating. Our wintertime pick is the Pore Purifier Charcoal Mask (

Step 4: Finish With A Face Oil

Did you know - your skin loses more moisture at night while you’re sleeping than during the day. And it goes without saying that the symptoms are only exasperated come wintertime. Sounds scary, right? Luckily there’s an easy fix - at night, give your skin a double dose of moisture: before applying your favorite hydrating night cream, treat your skin to a couple drops of our healing Double B Facial Oil ( Don’t worry, contrary to popular belief applying oils to oily skin will not lead to any crazy breakouts and in fact will usually do the opposite #TheMoreYouKnow
